SAVE MAA!!! – SIGN THE PETITION!!!
Well, this came as a surprise to everyone this morning, albeit not that much of a surprise here at MAA Times. On MAA 2 it lists its upcoming PVP tournament as the “Final Tournament”. Clearly this is a sign that MAA 2’s short run is coming to an early end. Why did this happen?
Obviously MAA 2 failed to draw in more players as Playdom previously hoped for. Why did MAA 2 follow the same path as MAA Tactics? Here are some reasons why MAA 2 failed to live up to the success that MAA 1 has endured.
UPDATE — MAA 2 IS NOT SHUTTING DOWN! – CLICK HERE
One of the reasons why MAA 1 was so succussful was because its tie with Facebook and its readily accessible huge population base. Moving to mobile may have opened more options in terms of programming and they no longer were restricted to the nightmares that Flash gave them. However, MAA 1 was practically born on Facebook. The fact that the Playdom version of the game died out should have been some indication.
2. Removing the Agent from the game was a mistake.
The simple idea with an agent with a huge of weapons at his disposal alongside two super powered heroes was a brilliant formula! It worked better than even Playdom themselves expected in 2012. Removing the Agent from the equation was a big mistake. Granted many players liked to play without the agent in many MAA 1 scenarios, but that was more a kin to “girls night out”. They didn’t want a divorce from the Agent!
3. They strayed too far away from the original game mechanics.
Why mess with such a good formula? Besides removing the agent, they also removed many other elements of MAA 1 which made it Marvel Avengers Alliance. The simple yet brilliant rock-paper-scissors class advantages were gone. Infiltrators no longer countered Tacticians. Scrappers no longer followed up. Tactician’s no longer got extra turns. Yet, the classes still remained, but its advantages over each other were less clear. Why even have classes at all at this point?
4. It was a lot more complicated that MAA 1 and harder to learn.
There was more of a steep learning curve in MAA 2. Many players simply didn’t have the patience nor time to learn a game that was so vastly different from its predecessor. Also there were just too many different factors that needed attention for leveling heroes. The grind was too long and hard for many.
5. Time is a valuable asset to players that Playdom fails to recognize.
Many of the players of MAA are hard working middle class adults with very little time in the day. For some MAA is the only game they play. For others it is the ONLY Hobby they do! So, to get them to try another game even if it is great and in the Marvel Universe, it simply may not be an option to them. That’s one of the reasons Marvel Avengers Alliance Tactics failed. It was a great game and in many ways closer to the original MAA 1 than MAA 2 was. Yet, still failed because who wanted to start over? Players were happy and doing just fine in the game they loved. The fact that MAA 2 took longer to both learn and master just compounded this problem. Many players tried MAA 2 but just left after a few weeks.
6. Failure to deliver new content on a regular basis.
This is a no brainer, and another reason why MAA 1 survived and thrived for 4 years straight. “Just when I thought I was out…THEY PULLED ME BACK IN!” players thought as they were barraged with so much content every month it would make Al Pacino’s head spin 300 times over! This wasn’t quite the same with MAA 2. Crickets could be heard on the helicarrier for weeks at a time. This and many other factors stated above simply failed to hook players in like MAA 1 did in 2012.
So what does this mean for MAA 1? Is MAA 1 going to have a similar fate? Many worry mongers think so after the ending of Chapter 12. However, we think not. On the contrary we believe that MAA 2’s demise can only spell GOOD NEWS for MAA 1. Now all the finance and resources will be directed and focused once again on the game we love. Expect to be blown away by Season 3!. A new golden age and renaissance is coming to MAA 1, and we at MAA Times can’t wait! 🙂
What do you think? Give us your opinions on what happened to MAA 2?

SOON! tm
There is been many rumors going around that the game will end soon. Well first of lets make some things clear.
a) MAA Times is Fan Site and NOT in any way connected to Playdom. So we really don’t know anything. Most of our predictions come from speculative and highly educated guesses based on past data and trend output behavior done by Playdom.
b) Even with that stated above, we at MAA Times strongly believe that MAA 1 is NOT going to end and will be around for quite some time.
Apparently Code Divers found the following photo:
She appears to be a character called “White Tiger”. Now, there have been 5 different versions of “White Tiger” in Marvel’s past. We believe she is the 5th version Ava Ayala, but we could be wrong. Also, nothing has been confirmed on how she will be deployed. Is she the next Spec Ops 36 Character? Is she the Next PVP? Is she the next general release or covert task? We don’t know. Give us your thoughts and let us know what you think?
