4 years ago today we got our very first General Release hero purchasable at 90 CP, then we got our 2nd 64 gold weapon. This was during the time when Captain America still ruled PVP!

Spec Ops 34 that just ended was the 2nd most expensive Spec Op (535 Command Points worth of deploys needed). Yet, the one prior, Spec Op 33 was the 3rd cheapest Spec Op ( 180 Command Points worth of deploys needed).
However, overall we can see that over the years the cost for command points has been increasing for every Spec Op. This is to assume that one playing has none of the required characters needed to complete that spec op. See Graph Below.

We got introduced to one of the better 64 gold weapons at the time. The Neurotrope was a buff action meta changer, that every agent carried in his arsenal in 2013. This item was so popular it was released 3 more times on the following dates: March 11, 2014, October 10, 2014 and June 25, 2015.

Flaming post was introduced 2 years ago today. Although, not a meta changer at the time, it was and still is a decent weapon. It became available only one more time on January 22, 2015. It may be available in the incursions. If you have it you may want to try it out in todays meta. As it does have the ability to strike through “intangible” targets!

Did you know that there are 105 MAA characters that still do NOT have any ALTs? Some characters got ALTs as soon as they came out (ie. Iceman, Angel & Amazing Spider Girl) and as recent as last year 2015. Whereas some have waited nearly 4 years before they got their ALT (i.e. Black Panther).

The game originally launched with a total Hero roster of 28 recruitable heroes. After the original launch and in between Spec Ops, Playdom would release new characters for the price of 90 CP. Black Panther was the first one to be released on 6/8/2012. Only Quicksilver was the only one to be released at the low cost of 48 CP. On Average Playdom does 6-8 General Releases per year. (See table below). (Yet, as of 6/1/2016 not one has yet been released this year.)

The days between releases would would vary widely. Some as low as 7 days between General Release characters (see Wasp and Captain Britain below), and some as long as 177 days (see Thundra and Doctor Voodoo below). That record is now broken because if Richard Rider would be released tomorrow then it would have been 197 days between him and Elsa Bloodstone’s release back in November 2015.
For new players I highly recommend spending the 90 CP for Richard Rider when he arrives. Typically because, newer characters are always slightly more powerful when first released (sometimes OP) before they eventually get nerfed. However, in the meantime enjoy them and get as much PVP value as you can out of them.

At the end of each Spec Ops the players are rewarded with a special new hero that would NOT be available after the Spec Ops ends. Unlike PVP reward heroes these characters would not be available for quite some time. The first Spec Ops reward hero, Mockingbird, for example was not released to the general public until one year and half later! However, she was made available for limited purchases between then (ie. Black Friday sales etc.)
The good news is that the wait time for the release of these characters has been dropping each year (contrary to the release of PVP reward heroes). Back in 2012 the average wait time was 13 months. Now this year 2016, it is down to 4 months. If you do not get Blue Marvel or Lady Thor during this spec ops you may be able purchase them as early as September 2016. (see graph below)
However, I still recommend trying to get them now while you can! Because for whatever reasons Spec Ops reward heroes are the most expensive in the game. Even though they are easier to obtain than PVP heroes their cost is much higher. They will cost 200 CP (command points) if you decide to recruit them later. Compare that to the 135 CP you pay for PVP reward heroes.
Why do they cost so much? Who knows? Maybe it is because they are easier to obtain. It is just punishment for missing out on the opportunity. However, I believe it may have been the precedent started by Mockingbird. Unlike subsequent reward heroes after her, Agent Bobbi Morse was quite the “meta changer” at the time and sparked a hot debate to those who earned her the hard way. 200 CP seemed steep enough a price to balance that envy. Yet some were still bothered that she was made available at all. My opinion is that Playdom has handled this very fairly. What is yours?
